How to Stir an Equal-Parts Negroni

Use a jigger to measure 25 ml gin, 25 ml ESTATE sweet vermouth and 25 ml bitter aperitivo into a mixing glass or jug. That gives you 75 ml before dilution.

Fill with plenty of solid ice, then stir with a bar spoon for 15–25 seconds, until cold and lightly diluted.[4][6][7]

Strain into a rocks glass over new ice.[4][3] Cut a strip of orange peel with as little pith as possible. Express the oils over the drink, then drop the peel into the glass.[4][5]

RHUBARB NEGRONI is ready to pour: just add it directly to new ice.

1. ESTATE Orange and Spice Negroni

For one drink, stir 25 ml each of gin, ESTATE English sweet vermouth and NEGRONI JUICE blood-orange red bitter with ice. Strain over new ice in a rocks glass.

Express orange peel over the drink, then add a small cinnamon stick as a garnish only. This keeps the spice light and lets the vermouth and blood orange come through.

ESTATE brings sweetness, herbs and depth to the mix. Made with 34 botanicals, it costs £26.95 and won Silver at the World Vermouth Awards 2021 and two stars at Great Taste 2026.

The next serve uses blood orange to sharpen the same formula for a brighter festive drink.

2. NEGRONI JUICE Blood Orange Negroni

NEGRONI JUICE is our limited-edition blood-orange red bitter, a Campari alternative priced at £25.95.[1]

For a brighter, sharper festive Negroni, pour 25 ml gin, 25 ml NEGRONI JUICE and 25 ml ESTATE English sweet vermouth into a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled, then strain into a rocks glass over new ice.[8]

Finish with an orange slice or dried orange.

3. DISPENSE Winter Amaro Negroni

For a richer, more herbal festive Negroni, swap the bitter for DISPENSE British amaro.

Stir 25 ml gin, 25 ml ESTATE English sweet vermouth and 25 ml DISPENSE with ice until cold, then strain over new ice.

Express orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then garnish with one star anise.

4. ASTERLEY ORIGINAL Festive Aperitivo Negroni

ASTERLEY ORIGINAL British aperitivo (£20.95) gives this Negroni a cleaner, aperitivo-led finish. Pour 25 ml each of gin, ESTATE English sweet vermouth and ASTERLEY ORIGINAL into an ice-filled mixing glass. Stir until thoroughly chilled, then strain into a rocks glass over new ice cubes.

Express the orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then add the peel and a small rosemary sprig. For a bottled festive serve, move on to RHUBARB NEGRONI.

5. RHUBARB NEGRONI Ready-to-Pour Serve

For an easy festive serve, reach for our RHUBARB NEGRONI (£29.95). It’s ready to pour.[1]

Chill the bottle, pour 75 ml over ice in a rocks glass, then add a strip of orange peel.[2]

Tips for Serving Christmas Negronis

These festive serves work best cold, with little dilution. Use plenty of cold, solid ice and stir until the glass feels ice-cold. At home, a sturdy pint glass can stand in for a mixing glass.[13][11][12]

Discard the stirring ice and pour over new ice, ideally one large cube.[13][12] Finish stirred serves with a broad strip of orange peel, adding spice only if you fancy it.[8][9][15]

Scale the recipe in small batches. Multiply each measure by the number of drinks, leaving enough room for the ice to circulate as you stir. You can refrigerate a measured batch ahead of time, but keep ice and garnishes separate until serving. Only add water if you’ve tested the amount.[10][14][16]

Choosing Your Christmas Negroni

Your pick depends on what you want in the glass. ESTATE Orange and Spice brings orange-spice depth, while NEGRONI JUICE Blood Orange gives a sharper citrus twist. Choose DISPENSE Winter Amaro for herbal bitterness or ASTERLEY ORIGINAL Festive Aperitivo for a lighter, aperitivo-led serve. RHUBARB NEGRONI is the fastest option.

Measure the stirred serves precisely, then stir with plenty of ice until cold. Serve RHUBARB NEGRONI chilled over ice.

To change up your serve beyond Christmas, The Negroni Society delivers two Negronis each month.

FAQs

Which gin suits a Christmas Negroni?

London Dry gin works well with the layers of botanicals in our ESTATE English sweet vermouth. For a slightly richer South London Negroni, reach for Old Tom gin: it complements the herbal notes of DISPENSE amaro. Hibiscus-infused gin gives a lighter, more floral festive serve.

Choose your gin to balance the vermouth and bitter ingredients, with your own taste as the guide.

How can I make my Negroni less bitter?

Use a little more ESTATE English sweet vermouth to soften your Negroni’s flavour. For a lighter, spritz-style drink, replace some of the alcohol with sparkling water or Prosecco.

Finish by squeezing a piece of orange peel over the glass to release its oils. This softens harsh notes and brings out the cocktail’s natural sweetness.

How long can I keep a premixed batch?

There’s no specified maximum storage time for a premixed batch of Negronis. Keep the ingredients refrigerated after opening, especially the vermouth. For the best flavour, use opened vermouth within 1–2 months.

When making your batch, add 10 ml of water to pre-dilute the cocktail, giving it a smooth, balanced taste.
