THE CLASSIC NEGRONI - SEPTEMBER 2025

THE CLASSIC NEGRONI - SEPTEMBER 2025

ASTERLEY BROS, CLASSSICS

And they said we wouldn't do it!

Well, here it is: Our Classic Negroni. A timeless cocktail.

We have spent the first few months of the year celebrating all sorts of wondrous and delicious creations incorporating butter, pandan, grapefruit, cherries, and many more amazing ingredients! This month, as we slip into the Autumnal mood, we are taking it back to the old school.

There are few cocktails as timeless, as beautifully balanced, and as utterly iconic as the Classic Negroni. This month, we're celebrating the drink that started it all, the gold standard by which every twist, riff, and reinvention is measured.

Since 1919, the Negroni has thrived at the crossroad of bitter, sweet, and herbal flavours. Its signature, ratio-led construction is perfectly balanced, yet at the same time, begging to be adapted. At Asterley Bros, we have our own Classic Negroni recipe, combining the best of British craft with Italian tradition. It’s a pour we reach for again and again, each time a reminder of why we fell in love with this cocktail in the first place. And pretty much why we started the company in the first place!

THE DRINK

Not a lot to say this month. I mean, we are all here because we love a Classic Negroni, right? The beauty of the Classic Negroni is its purity and adaptability. Gin offers the weight, the body and the botanical backbone. Our Estate Sweet Vermouth brings a rich, citrus and spiced-laden sweetness. Finally our own British Bitters blend ties it all together with structured bitterness, hints of orange zest, and a good layer of sweetness to bind it all together.

To get the serve just right at home, we add a couple of drops of sugar to round it out, we pre-dilute slightly to help the flavours integrate, and then we put a tiny amount of Bitter Orange essential oil into the mix. Just to give you that zesty top note as you take your first sip. Beautiful.
