This month we're staying close to home and sharing one of our own creations that we have revived and remixed for our NEW Negroni Session : A Masterclass.

Rather than collaborating with a bar, we've headed into the Asterley Bros archives and pulled out a drink created by Jim. Inspired by the classic Negroni Sbagliato, this version brings together our vermouth, a touch of passionfruit and a splash of prosecco for an easy-drinking summer serve.

PASSIONFRUIT SBAGLIATO NEGRONI

The Sbagliato has become one of the most popular Negroni variations in recent years, swapping gin for sparkling wine to create something lighter and more refreshing.

Our version keeps the bittersweet backbone of a Negroni but adds passionfruit for a little extra fruitiness and rounds everything off with prosecco. It's simple, refreshing and exactly the sort of drink we find ourselves reaching for when the weather finally behaves itself.

BEFORE YOU START

Give your pouch a good shake before serving.

You'll also need some chilled prosecco, as the pouch contains the Negroni base only. Topping with prosecco is what turns it into a Sbagliato.

For anyone new to Asterley Bros, we're a family-run producer based in South London, making vermouth, aperitivo and amaro inspired by European drinking culture.

Most of the drinks we create start with a conversation around the blending table and this month's serve is no different. We wanted to make something that felt familiar to Negroni drinkers but a little lighter for the summer months, with the passionfruit bringing just enough fruit without taking over the drink.

THE DRINK

The Passionfruit Sbagliato sits somewhere between a classic aperitivo and a Negroni.

The bitterness is still there, the vermouth still does the heavy lifting, but the prosecco and passionfruit make it a little more relaxed and easy-going.

Perfect for sunny afternoons, garden gatherings and long evenings with friends.

TO SERVE YOUR PASSIONFRUIT SBAGLIATO NEGRONI

  • Pop the pouch in the freezer for 40 minutes until nicely chilled.
  • 2 POUCHES MAKE 3 DRINKS!! Pour out one third of a pouch/60ml.
  • Shake pouch well.
  • Pour into an ice-filled tumbler or old-fashioned glass.
  • Garnish with a slice of orange or half a passionfruit.

THE RECIPE

  • 25ml Estate Sweet Vermouth
  • 25ml Campari/Bitters
  • 10ml Passionfruit Liqueur
  • 30ml - 60ml Prosecco to taste
  • Garnish

To recreate this delightful Negroni variation, simply follow the instructions below:

  • Add the ingredients above to an ice-filled cocktail shaker and stir for 60 seconds until well-chilled and slightly diluted.
  • Pour into an ice-filled tumbler or old-fashioned glass.
  • Garnish with a orange slice or half a passionfruit and serve
  • If you want to prebatch your drinks to serve quickly later, just add another 10ml water to the ingredients above, to ‘pre-dilute’ the blend.
