The negroni recipe is well-established, but swapping a Californian or Italian sweet vermouth for Estate English Sweet Vermouth shifts the drink into something quieter and more herbaceous. The dark fruit notes in Estate make for a rounder, deeper negroni — closer in spirit to the English countryside than the Piazza della Repubblica.
Ingredients
- 25 ml Estate English Sweet Vermouth
- 25 ml London dry gin
- 25 ml bitter aperitivo (Italian-style)
- Orange peel (garnish)
Method
Step 1: Stir
Add Estate, gin and bitter aperitivo to a mixing glass with plenty of ice. Stir for 15–20 seconds until chilled and diluted.
Step 2: Strain
Strain into a rocks glass over a large cube of ice.
Step 3: Garnish
Express an orange peel over the glass and drop it in.
Tasting Notes
Deeper and more herbaceous than a classic Negroni, with Estate's dark fruit notes giving the drink a brooding quality that lingers pleasantly on the finish.
