Coffee and amaro is one of those combinations that feels obvious once you've tried it, but most people haven't thought to lengthen it into a highball. Part of our Summer Highballs collection, three tall serves built for long afternoons and warm evenings. We've been drinking this one in the workshop on hot days when we still need to stay sharp.
The tonic does something interesting here. It lifts the heavier espresso and amaro notes into something genuinely refreshing without losing any of the depth. It shouldn't work as well as it does.
Ingredients
- 30 ml Dispense Modern British Amaro
- 30 ml cold espresso
- 90 ml tonic water
- Orange wheel (garnish)
Method
Step 1: Combine
Pour Dispense and cold espresso into a tall glass filled with ice. Let them settle for a moment.
Step 2: Top
Top slowly with tonic water. The espresso will foam slightly as it mixes, which is exactly what you want.
Step 3: Garnish
Float an orange wheel on top and serve immediately while the fizz is still lively.
Tasting Notes
Roasted coffee and dark chocolate from the espresso meet Dispense's dried fig and herbal bitterness. The tonic lifts everything with a quinine snap, making it both complex and surprisingly easy to drink.
