A long, refreshing highball built on Asterley aperitivo, fresh cucumber and elderflower tonic. The summer afternoon drink in a glass.

Asterley Cucumber Cooler

There's a moment in summer when nothing else works — too hot for a Negroni, too dull for a glass of wine. This is the answer: long, low-ABV, and properly refreshing. The first of our Summer Highballs collection — three serves built for warm afternoons and longer evenings.

Ingredients

  • 50 ml Asterley Original British Aperitivo
  • 15 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 120 ml elderflower tonic water
  • Cucumber ribbon and mint sprig (garnish)

Method

Step 1: Build

Fill a tall highball glass with ice cubes. Pour in the Asterley Original and fresh lemon juice.

Build -- Asterley Cucumber Cooler

Step 2: Top

Top with cold elderflower tonic water and give one gentle stir from the bottom to combine without losing the fizz.

Top -- Asterley Cucumber Cooler

Step 3: Garnish and serve

Tuck a long cucumber ribbon down one side of the glass and crown with a fresh mint sprig. Serve straight away while everything is properly cold.

Garnish and serve -- Asterley Cucumber Cooler

Tasting Notes

Crisp and floral, with cucumber freshness lifting the bittersweet aperitivo. The elderflower tonic adds a gentle sweetness that stays well clear of cloying.
